Maroulas is a traditional village located just 9 kms east of the north coast of Rethymnon, in Crete at an altitude of 240metres. Today, there are 192 permanent residents in the village, which is a characteristic monument of the Venetian era on the island. The architecture of the village takes you back into the middle ages, the Renaissance and the years of Turkish occupation. It has strategically  been built on top of a hill offering panoramic views of the Cretan Sea. There are several tavernas and a kafeneion in the village but further shopping amenities are available in Platanias, just 2 kms away. Rethymnon is located on the western side of Crete, between the prefectures of Chania and Heraklion.
